Why Is My Photo Cropped? (And How to Fix It)

If your photos look cropped differently than expected, don’t worry - this is usually due to how images are fitted into the product during creation.
The good news is this can be easily checked and adjusted before placing your order.
Why does cropping happen?
Cropping occurs when your photo doesn’t match the shape of the product.
For example:
A rectangle photo placed into a square product (like magnets)
A portrait image placed into a landscape layout
To make the image fit, the app automatically crops part of the photo.
Important to know
Picture Postie uses a what-you-see-is-what-you-get system.
👉 This means:
What you see in the app
Is exactly what gets printed
There is no additional editing or adjustment during production.
How to check and adjust your cropping
Before placing your order:
Add your images to your product
Tap through to the Review screen for individual image products eg prints, magnets, blocks, canvas, decals
Look at each image thumbnail carefully
Tap an image to:
Reposition it
Zoom in or out
Adjust what part of the image is visible
For products with multiple images eg photo books, calendars and collage products
After selecting your images and progressing to the product template/review screen
Tap an image to:
Reposition it
Zoom in or out
Adjust what part of the image is seen in the image slot
👉 The thumbnail shown is exactly what will print.
Why this is especially important for certain products
Cropping is more noticeable on:
Square products (e.g. magnets, prints)
Collage layouts
Tight image spaces
Products with lots of variation with the image slots like books and calendars
If your photo doesn’t match the shape, some cropping is unavoidable — but you can control which part is shown.
Can you fix cropping after ordering?
Unfortunately, no.
Once your order is placed:
The cropped version of your image is what is sent to print
We do not have access to the original uncropped framing
Reprinting the same order would result in the same outcome.
Tips to avoid cropping issues
Always review your images on the Review screen
Adjust cropping for faces and key details
Use zoom and reposition tools
Choose images that suit the product shape
Allow a little space around important subjects
Why the app works this way
Picture Postie is designed to give you full control over your design.
This ensures:
What you create is exactly what you receive
No unexpected edits happen during printing
You can personalise your products with precision
